Marsha L. Simons, age 72, of Glidden, Iowa, lost her courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Born on June 4, 1936 at Carroll, Iowa, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Delores (Loneman) Zacker. She grew up in Carroll and graduated from Carroll High School in 1954. She was married to her childhood sweetheart Dick A. Simons on September 2, 1955 at LeGrand, Iowa. Marsha was a homemaker, Brownie Leader, Cub Scout Leader and enjoyed all activities involving children. She belonged to the Chat or Bid Card Club in Glidden for 36 years. Marsha truly loved all her trips to Las Vegas where she could always be found at the nearest video poker bar. Surviving are her husband Dick A. Simons of Glidden; a daughter Patti Simons of Boone, Iowa; a half-brother Kenny Baumhover of Laurens, Iowa; a sister-in-law Ann Zacker of Carroll; a brother-in-law Romayne Blackley of Glidden; her special nephew and friend Greg Zacker; and many much loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved son Rick Simons in 2002, her parents, a sister Deanna Blackely, and a brother Jack Zacker. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, December 1, 2008 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden with Rev. Ed Tiedeman of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn & Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5:00 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. Casket bearers will be David Blackley, Jeff Blackley, Phillip Zacker, Greg Zacker, Steve Simons, and Ron Bunting. Honorary casket bearers will be Rick Whitaker, Don Meiers, Dennis Johnson, Robert Cook, and Gary Brotherson. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Cemetery near Glidden. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be made to the St. Anthony Regional Hospice or Carroll Area Nursing Service and may be left at the funeral home.
