Marlene Long, age 65, of Coon Rapids passed away on Monday, September 14, 2015 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids with Chaplain Peg Scheidt of St. Anthony Regional Hospital officiating. Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5 - 7 P.M. on Friday evening. Visitation will resume at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday at the funeral home until the time of service. Music for the service will be "Rock of Ages", "Swing Low Sweet Chariot", and "Eagle's Wings". Casket bearers will be Frederick Long, Jerry Kult, Larry Snyder, Paul Olson, Keegan Kult, and Greyson Gust. Honorary casket bearers will be Marlene's nieces: Teresa Olson, Maria Wilson, Jennifer Tonko, Jessica Grote, and Nichole Gust. Burial will be in the Orange Township Cemetery south of Coon Rapids. Born on August 10, 1950 in Carroll, she was the daughter of Frederick G. and Evelyn M. (Leinen) Long. She grew up in Coon Rapids and graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1968. She attended Wayne State College and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business Education in 1972. She taught business classes in the Benton Community School District for eight years. While teaching, she took summer programs in Greeley, Colorado and earned her Master's of Business Administration degree. She began working in administration management for Target Corporation in Cedar Rapids along with teaching. Marlene moved back to Coon Rapids in 1990 and worked for ICI Seed Company and later Wal-Mart in Carroll. She was a member of Phi Mu Sorority of which she was president during college. In her younger years Marlene enjoyed playing clarinet in the band, playing basketball, singing in the choir and in later years woodworking, crafts, and fishing. She loved spending time with her family especially her nieces and nephews and her cat Smokey. Marlene was a devoted daughter and took care of her Mom and Dad in their home for many years. She always loved being on the farm; driving tractors, taking care of livestock, and working in the fields with her brother and sisters. Marlene is survived by her mother Evelyn Long of Coon Rapids; two sisters: Deborah Kult and her husband Jerald of Coon Rapids and Lora Snyder and her husband Larry of Halbur; a brother Frederick Long Jr. and his wife Sandra of Jefferson; two nephews; five nieces; several great nieces and nephews; and several aunts and uncles. Marlene was preceded in death by her father Frederick Long in 2011 and a nephew Robert Snyder in 2014.
