Mark Joseph Winker, age 35, of Glidden passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 6, 2017 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, February 10, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Gildden with Fr. Andrew Hoffman as Celebrant assisted by Deacon Gary Schon. Lector for the Mass will be Mark Beardmore. Gift bearers will be Mark’s brothers: Art, Eric and Don Winker. Casket bearers will be Terry Daniel, Scott Hansen, Chris Sturm, Tony Whitaker, Travis Walters, Mitch Rickers, Tyler Holm, and Harm Buss. Burial will be in Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Friends may call at St. Elizabeth Seton Church after 4:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 P.M. Visitation will resume at St. Elizabeth Seton Church at 9:30 A.M. on Friday until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Mark’s name and memorials may be left at the church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on April 9, 1981 in Carroll, IA, he was the son of Cletus “Red” and Jeanette (Fink) Winker. Mark grew up in Glidden and graduated from Glidden – Ralston High School in 1999 where he played football, golf, and was active in FFA. Following high school Mark worked for Walsh Motors as a mechanic in Carroll before moving to Des Moines where he was co-owner and “Repo Man” at American Auto Adjusters. He moved back to Glidden in 2008 and worked for Christiansen Motors in Audubon as service manager. Mark was married to Kara Linde on May 9, 2009 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden by Fr. Edmund Tiedeman. Mark and Kara have made their home in Glidden, and Mark has been employed by Wittrock Motors as Service Manager for the past three years. Mark was gifted from a young age to be an auto mechanic working alongside his Dad in their shop, Glidden Body Shop. He was a devoted Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Uncle and Friend. Mark enjoyed hunting, fishing, following NASCAR, helping his friends farm, riding four wheelers, and all things outdoors. Mark is survived by his wife Kara of Glidden; son Logan (age 15) and daughter London (age 6) both at home; his mother Jeanette Winker of Glidden; Kara’s parents: Dawn Ortner (Steve) of Danbury, IA, and Bob Linde (Kim) of Glidden; three brothers: Art Winker (Tammy) of Waterloo, Eric Winker (Susan) of Carroll, and Don Winker (Liz) of Grimes, IA; a brother-in-law Kyle Linde (Melissa) of Elkins, AR; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father Cletus “Red” Winker in 2008.
