Marjorie Ridgeway

Marjorie Katherine Ridgeway, daughter of Hans and Susan (Huyck) Nelson, was born February 20, 1914, at Exira, Iowa. She was raised near Exira and graduated from Exira High School in 1930. On August 14, 1936, Marjorie was united in marriage with Dale Ridgeway at the Methodist parsonage in Adel by Pastor W.G. Warren. Marjorie and Dale made their home in Coon Rapids. Marjorie worked at the Carroll County Courthouse and then at Armours Creamery until its closing in 1960. She then worked in the office of Garst Seed Company until her retirement in April of 1977. Dale died September 5, 2000. Marjorie was an active member of the First Christian Church in Coon Rapids and sang with the choir. Marjorie and Dale were a very close couple. Together they enjoyed going shopping for clothes and cars and spending the holidays with their nieces and nephews. They particularly enjoyed traveling to Spirit Lake and Minnesota to go fishing for bullheads. Marjorie was always ready to go. Marjorie was able to remain on her own until October of 2007, when she became a resident of the Carroll Health Center where she died on Sunday, March 2, 2008. She was 94 years of age. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including her niece Suzanne Dvorak and her husband Lanny of Carroll, as well as other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and two sisters.
