Marilyn Jean Ruchti

Marilyn Jean Ruchti, age 83, of Carroll passed away on August 4, 2019 at Accura Healthcare of Carroll surrounded by her family.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ruchti will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with the Rev. John Schauer officiating.  Organist for the service will be Abe Batten and soloist will be Marv Toft.

Casket bearers will be her grandsons: John Schaefer, Tony Ruchti, Tad Holm, TJ Alger, Jordon Holm, Brandon Holm, Bobby Vogler, and Noah Ruchti.  Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.

Friends may call after 5:00 P.M. on Friday at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll, where there will be a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial fund in Mrs. Ruchti’s name. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or at the church.

Born on August 22, 1935 in Carroll, IA, Marilyn was the daughter of Harry and Alma (Wenck) Bruggeman. She grew up in the Lidderdale area and attended Immanuel Lutheran School as a girl and then graduated from Carroll High School in 1953. Following graduation, Marilyn worked at Carroll County State Bank. She was married to Gene Ruchti on May 15, 1955 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale. Marilyn and Gene lived in Lake View and operated a TV and small electronics repair shop. Later, they moved to Carroll and Marilyn worked at Sernett’s Department Store for many years. She also worked at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Casey’s General Store, and McDonald’s. Volunteering at St. Anthony’s Hospital gave her great joy. Marilyn enjoyed reading, crafting, putting puzzles together, and spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Marilyn is survived by her five children: Jacque Alger (Tracy) of Lisbon, Dawnie Richard (Curt Carstens) of Carroll, Terry Ruchti (Zoe) of Carroll, Twyla Vogler (Robert) of Pearland, Texas, and Joel Ruchti (Becky) of Johnston; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; her sister: Carolyn Taphorn of Carroll; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents: Harry and Alma Bruggeman, her husband Gene in 1994, her in-laws: Rudolph and Alvera Ruchti, her sister-in-law: Micky Ruchti, and her brother-in-law: Duane Taphorn.
