Marie Louise Hackett, age 82, of Carroll passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, April 23, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll with Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating. Organist for the service will be Ellen Severin. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Sunday evening. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Marie’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Marie’s name for a later designation and may be left with the funeral home or at the church. Born on March 28, 1936 in Perry, IA, she was the daughter of William and Ruth (Hill) Moyer. She attended grade school in Perry and moved to Carroll to attend high school at St. Angela’s Academy. In Carroll, Marie lived with a local Doctor’s family as their nanny. She married Gary D. Hackett on May 22, 1954 at the Presbyterian Church Parsonage in Denison. Gary and Marie farmed north of Carroll for 43 years where they raised their family. She worked at Bonanza Restaurant, the Singer Sewing Center and State Farm Insurance. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Carroll and held many leadership roles at both the local and district conference levels. She was a charter member of the Carroll County Historical Society serving as secretary for over 20 years; nine years as president. She also served with the Carroll Depot Centre LTD for eight years; four as secretary. Marie was an election official for the Kniest/Wheatland township for many years and later the 2nd Ward of Carroll. She was a co-chair of the Carroll County Sesquicentennial Celebration from 1993 – 1997, she was a past member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Lincoln Highway Association. Marie is survived by her children: daughter Terri Heyne (Lynn) of Stratton, NE; son Rev. Greg Hackett (Sally) of San Antonio, TX; and daughter Janis Mendenhall of Taft, CA; six grandchildren: Sean Heyne of Stratton, NE, Kara Wood (Brian) of Kodak, TN, Ryan Heyne of Stratton, NE, Benjamin Hackett (Rebecca) of San Antonio, TX, Colin Hackett (Kelsey) of Flower Mound, TX, and Kate Mendenhall of Los Angeles, CA; five great-grandchildren: Logan, Emily, Xander, Savannah, and Landon; her brother Milton Moyer of Ames, IA; a sister-in-law Betty Moyer of Missouri; two brothers-in-law: Bob Luebbert of Minnesota and Bernard Dearey of Wisconsin; and numerous nieces and nephews including Laurie Behrens (Mark). Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Gary; her parents William and Ruth Moyer; her mother and father-in-law Floyd and Nancy Hackett; two sisters: Margaret Dearey and Mary Jo Luebbert, brother Max Moyer.
