Marie Dorothy Dion

Marie Dorothy Dion, age 97, of Carroll, IA, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 2, 2022 at Regency Park in Carroll.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Ryan Roehrig officiating. Organist for the service will be John Panning.  Casket bearers will be Denny Schirck, Alan Herrig, Dave Peters, George Ott, Steve O’Tool, and Virgil Tigges.  Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 from 9:30 – 10:15 A.M. prior to the service.

Marie was born on August 21, 1925 in Carroll, IA, and she was the daughter of Hugo Herman and Anna Christina (Mergele) Grundmeier.  She was baptized into the Lutheran faith on May 19, 1935 and confirmed on March 17, 1940 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll. She attended Carroll Public Schools and graduated from Carroll High School in 1944.  After her graduation, she was employed in the law offices of W.L. Kline, L.A. Wederath, and James T. Kisgen until 1950 when she began work in the city clerk’s office where she was employed until her retirement in 1977.  She was married to Maurice L. Dion on September 6, 1959 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll by her brother Rev. Russell M. Grundmeier.  Marie enjoyed watching Jeopardy, trivia games, crossword puzzles, watching the Boston Celtics, bowling, golf, making craft items, and crocheting.

Marie is survived by a sister-in-law Dorothy Knudson of Manning; and several nieces and nephews.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents Hugo and Anna Grundmeier; her husband Maurice Dion in 2000; four brothers: Ralph (Pearl), Harold “Stub” (Marion), Orren (Pat), and Rev. Russel (Becky); a sister Letha Grundmeier; and twin sisters in infancy.
