Marian Stangl

Marian Stangl, age 90, of Carroll passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Johnson as Celebrant. Visitation will be held at Holy Spirit Church from 12:30 P.M. on Saturday until the time of Mass. Lector for the Mass will be Jake Bates. Gift bearers will be her daughters Mary and Barbara. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren and burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Born on March 1, 1924 in Carroll she was the daughter of Louis and Theresa (Schneider) Schmitt. Marian was a lifelong resident of Carroll and graduated from Carroll High School in 1941. She was married to Alton Stangl on December 27, 1946 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church Carroll. Marian worked at the Carroll Library and a local insurance agency. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish where she volunteered with the church guild and at the school. She enjoyed keeping up on current events, crossword puzzles and word jumbles in the paper, but most of all playing with her grandchildren. Marian is survived by two daughters: Mary Clark and her husband Brad of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Barbara Moore and her husband Mike of Arlington, Texas; a son David Stangl and his wife Judy of Arlington, Texas; her grandchildren and spouses: Jennifer Bates and her husband Jake of North Liberty, Iowa, Seth Clark and his wife Megan of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Michael Clark and his wife Molly of Irving, Texas, Megan Law and her husband Colby of Ames, Iowa, Ellen Moore of San Marcos, Texas, and Ethan Stangl of Denton, Texas; great grandchildren: Calla, Annaliese, Liam, and Julia; two sisters-in-law: Lavonne O’Conner of Carroll and Joan Nehman and her husband Don of Lytton, Iowa; and two brothers-in-law: Ralph Stangl of Boulder, Colorado, and Ivan Stangl and his wife Marlene of Aurora, Illinois. Marian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alton in 2010 a sister Florence Conroy, and three brothers: Paul, Edwin, and Maurice Schmitt.
