Marian Junker, 93, of Glidden, Iowa, passed away at St. Anthony Regional Hospital, Carroll, Iowa, on Thursday October 15, 2020. Services will be held at a later date. Marian was born November 13, 1926, and she was the daughter of Raymond and Hilda Haselton. Marian was raised on a farm west of Glidden. She graduated from Glidden High School as did six generations of her family. After graduation she attended William Woods College in Missouri. She was united in marriage to Paul A. Junker on April 12, 1947, and they made their home in Glidden. They were blessed with five children (Julia, Kristin, Jerome, Sharon and Jill). The family moved to Kentucky, Avoca Iowa, and Minnesota, returning to Glidden in 1963 to run the Busy Bee Cafe until Paul’s death in 1965. Marian enrolled at Iowa State in 1969 earning her BS in Journalism and went on to teach at Marshalltown High School. After retirement she made her home in Glidden. Marian was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church and was active in book clubs, Entre Nous, PEO, and bridge clubs. She was also an avid storyteller, and her stories entertained many school children as well as many churches and clubs. Marian was a tenacious Trivial Pursuit player with all of her children wanting her on their team. She also schooled her grandchildren in the Mario Brothers video game. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s events and cheering for the Cubs. Marian is survived by her daughters Julia Janning (Lowell) of Glidden; Kristin Mohning (Steve) of Adel, Iowa; Sharon Newton of West Des Moines; Jill Sorden (Steve) of Fort Collins, CO. She has 15 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and one sister-in-law, Mary Haselton. Marian was preceded in death by her husband Paul, her son Jerome, her brothers: David, James (Pauline) and Bruce (Charlotte) Haselton.
