Margaret “Cookie” Beardmore, age 92, of Carroll passed away, December 1, 2016 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, December 5, 2016 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll with Fr. Brian Feller as Celebrant. Fr. Timothy Schott will concelebrate the Mass. Music for the Mass will be by Kate Cuddy and the St. Lawrence Choir with Cindy Loneman as Cantor. Lectors for the Mass will be Karen Gnam and Scott Gavin. Eucharistic Ministers will be Vicki Linde and Rick Boes. Mass Servers will be Eli Scharfenkamp and Ben and Chloe Grote. Casket bearers will be Cookie’s five boys: Martin Joseph, Thomas Ray, Robert Paul, Mark Ellsworth, and Todd Andrew, and longtime family friend A. Prescott Gavin. Burial will be in the Glasco Cemetery in Glasco, KS. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a Christian Wake at 6:30 P.M. followed by a Rosary. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:30 A.M. on Monday where visitation will resume until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the St. Lawrence Ladies Guild and may be left at the funeral home or the church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Cookie’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on April 25, 1924 near Formoso, Kansas, she was the daughter of Ray D. and Effie L. (Leydig) Ellsworth. In 1939, the family moved near Mankato, Kansas, where she graduated from high school in 1942. Following graduation, Cookie moved to Detroit, Michigan to attend Business College. Cookie worked as a secretary to a Detroit attorney until she moved back to Kansas where she was employed at Santa Fe Railroad in Topeka, KS, Chicago, IL, and Kansas City, MO. Cookie married her childhood sweetheart, Ens. Carlos M. Beardmore in Jacksonville, FL, on August 1, 1944. She joined him on various assignments until he was deployed to active duty as a U.S. Navy Corsair fighter pilot in the Pacific during WWII. Cookie then returned to Mankato where she later gave birth to their first child while her husband was at war. Upon Carlos’ return to Mankato in 1947 he joined his father in their automobile dealership. Several years later they bought a small dealership in Cambridge, NE and by 1959, a larger one in Beatrice, NE. In 1971, they moved to join his brother in a new dealership in Bellevue, while Cookie was soon employed by the Bellevue Public Schools. During 1984, Cookie, Carlos, and Mark moved to Carroll, IA, where they operated Mark Beardmore Chevrolet. The family joined St. Lawrence Church, and Cookie became a member of its Guild. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ for many years. She was a member of the Breast Cancer Support Group, chaired Daffodil Days, served as a hospice volunteer, and the New Hope Foundation for several years. She remained passionate for her sewing hobbies, her Nebraska Cornhuskers, and above all, her Catholic faith and her Country. Cookie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. A woman blessed with energy that reflected her sense of humor and living life to its fullest. Cookie is survived by a daughter Mary Cathleen Young of Berkeley, CA; six sons; John Meade Beardmore (Jill) of Howell, MI, Martin Joseph Beardmore of Omaha, Thomas Ray Beardmore of Topeka, KS, Robert Paul Beardmore of Bellevue, NE, Mark Ellsworth Beardmore (Pamela) of Carroll, and Todd Andrew (Kelly) of Bellevue, NE; son-in-law; Bruce A. Harding of Bellevue, NE; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great granddaughter. Cookie was preceded in death by her parents Ray and Effie Ellsworth, her mother and father-in-law; Meade and Mabel Beardmore, her husband Carlos Meade Beardmore in 1987, two sisters; June Duerksen (Peter) and Ruth Kier (Jerry), brother-in-law; Moe Beardmore (Pat), daughter Carla Maureen Harding, and grandson Michael McClaren.
