Mae Jean Baker

Mae Jean Baker, age 94, of Coon Rapids passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, November 20, 2017 at the Coon Rapids Cemetery with Rev. Joyce Webb officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on March 19, 1923 on her family’s farm near Old Carrollton, she was the daughter of Belle Lehonor (Conner) and Emmanuel Oscar “Dick” Sigler. Mae Jean grew up on her family’s farm and graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1941. Following high school she taught school in a one room schoolhouse. She was married to Daryl Baker on July 2, 1949 at the Greenbriar Church. The couple lived in Anita, IA, before moving to Coon Rapids, settling on an acreage east of town. They made their home there for 50 years and operated Baker’s Acres for over 45 years where they raised fruit and vegetables and sold their goods. In retirement, Daryl and Mae Jean moved in to Coon Rapids. She entered Thomas Rest Haven in June of 2010. She enjoyed playing bingo, joking with the staff and sitting in her chair watching the people come and go. Mae Jean is survived by a brother and sister-in-law Duane and Beverly Baker of Coon Rapids and many nieces and nephews. Mae Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings; her husband Daryl in 2006; and a son John Edward in infancy.
