Lt. Col. Gerald P. Lipton, age 86, of Carroll, Iowa died at the St. Anthony Nursing Home on August 6, 2009. Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, August 17, 2009, at the First Presbyterian Church in Carroll with the Rev. Dr. Michael Fitzsimmons officiating. Organist will be Mrs. Sally Patten. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5PM Sunday August 16, 2009, where there will be a Masonic Memorial Service at 7PM by Signet Masonic Lodge # 264 A.F. and A. M. with Terry Augustus as Orator. The casket will be moved to the Church at 8:30 AM on Monday to lie in state until time of the service. Interment will be in the Carroll City Cemetery with Military Honors by the Maurice Dunn Post of the American Legion. Casket Bearers will be Craig Luchtel, Ryan Brodersen, Tom Rogers, Don Prior, Norm Hutcheson and Glenn Lockhart. He was born May 9, 1923 at Denver, Colorado and was the son of Harry and Nellie Lipton. He was married to Betty Strawn on March 15, 1957 at March Air Force Base in Riverside Calif. He was a veteran of the United States Military and served with the Air Force as a navigator and Bombardier during WWII. He had also worked at Bankers Life Insurance Co and Principle Insurance Co as a senior Investment Counselor. Gerald was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carroll and was a member of the Signet Masonic Lodge # 264 A.F and A. M. and the El Talif Shrine Temple of Spokane, Washington, the Maurice Dunn Post of the American Legion and the VFW of Carroll. In his spare time her enjoyed visiting with people, his family, and working with the Masonic Lodge Surviving are a daughter Patricia Mabey and her husband Munro of Vancouver Island, B. C.; a son Scott Lipton and his wife Kathy of Tucson, Arizona; a daughter Barbara Larsen of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; a son Patrick Lipton and his wife Sharon of Vancouver, Washington; a son Tom Lipton and his wife Marjean of Carroll; nine grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 4 sisters.
