Lowell Daniel

Lowell B. Daniel, age 81, of rural Glidden, Iowa, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2011 due to injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Breda, Iowa. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, December 23, 2011 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lidderdale with Fr. Timothy Schott as Celebrant. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a Rosary at 3:30 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 6:00 P.M.. Lectors for the Mass will be Kristin Daniel and Jessica Klocke. Eucharistic ministers will be Deb, Steve, and Joe Daniel. Mass servers will be Adam and Daniel Scharfenkamp. Gift bearers will be Lowell’s three daughters: Laura, Jayne, and Pamela. Casket bearers will be Lowell’s six sons: Thomas, David, Michael, Patrick, Paul, and Mark. Burial will be in the Holy Family Cemetery near Lidderdale. Born on August 15, 1930 at Carroll, Iowa, he was the son of Henry and Mary (Schleisman) Daniel. He grew up on his family’s farm north of Lidderdale. He graduated from Holy Family School and then farmed with his father. Lowell married Florence Miller on June 27, 1949 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll. Lowell and Florence had nine children; six sons and three daughters. They lived and farmed north of Lidderdale all their married life. He ran a custom shelling and custom combining business in the community for many years. He was a lifelong member of Holy Family Parish in Lidderdale and Lowell and Florence served on the Kuemper Parents Club. Lowell was on the building committee of the Holy Family Parish Hall. He also dug graves for the parish cemetery for many years. Lowell enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing and going on long scenic drives. On weekday evenings and on Sundays after dinner, he would load up the whole family and go for a drive. Lowell was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him. Surviving are his wife Florence of 62 years; six sons: Thomas Daniel of Carroll; David Daniel (Deanna) of Lidderdale, Michael Daniel (Deb) of Lohrville, Patrick Daniel (Lynda) of Rockwell City, Paul Daniel (Tricia) of Glidden, and Mark Daniel of Carroll; three daughters: Laura Danner (Jim) of Glidden, Jayne Klocke (Kevin) of Templeton, and Pamela Mohr (Steve) of Glidden; 26 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 11 step-great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Martha Daniel of Lidderdale, Teresa Cornelius of Carroll, and Caroline Clark (Roy) of Casper Wyoming; and many nieces and nephews. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law, his brothers and sisters: Clayton, Melvin, Norbert, Earl, Everett, Geneviev Haberl, Lenore Schrad, Burnita Warnke and Rita Daniel.
