Louis C. Wenck, age 87, of Carroll passed away on Friday, September 4, 2009 at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Schott as Celebrant. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a rosary at 3:00 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 P.M. by the parish. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Military honors will be conducted by the Carroll American Legion. Casket bearers will be Kenny Beckman, Ron Kerwood, Todd Wenck, Trent Fellom, Kory Fellom, and Tyler Wenck.
Born on January 6, 1922 at Sheridan Township, Carroll, Iowa, he was the son of John and Carrie Koppleman Wenck. He attended country school and worked on farms in Sac and Carroll counties. In 1942 he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and proudly served in World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He was married to Helen Cunningham on July 24, 1946 at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Carroll. After his marriage, he worked for Western Engineer, Boje Construction, and Iowa Public Service for 32 years until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Maurice Dunn Post No. 7 of the American Legion in Carroll, and Disabled American Vets of Buena Vista Post No. 33 of Storm Lake.
Louis is survived by three sons: Jerry Wenck and wife Linda of Rio Vista, California; Terry Wenck and wife Bobbie of Indio, California; Robert Wenck and wife Gail of Marlbourogh, New Hamphshire; a son-in-law Bill Eckard of Santa Cruz, California; a sister Mildred Helmkamp of Carroll; two sisters-in-law Edna Wenck and Mary Kerwood both of Carroll; 13 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen, a daughter Diane Eckard, a brother Clarence, a sister Helen Beckman, sister-in-laws Bernadine Podesta and Eleanor Webber, and brother-in-laws Frank Beckman, Carl Helmkamp, John Podesta, and Marvin Webber.
