Louis Hastings Walsh, age 84, of Scottsdale, AZ, and formerly of Carroll, IA, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at Hospice of the Valley in Scottsdale surrounded by family following a long illness.
Lou’s family will host a celebration of life gathering on Thursday, June 18, 2026.
They will begin with a graveside service and inurnment at 4:30 P.M. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Military honors will be conducted by the Carroll American Legion.
A reception will follow the graveside service at the Carrollton Inn from 5:30 – 8 P.M.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com
Lou was born on March 7, 1942 in St. Louis, MO, and was the son of Louis Hastings and Elizabeth Mary (Sander) Walsh. Lou grew up in Detroit, MI, where he attended Ferndale High School and graduated with the Class of 1961. During his time in high school, Lou excelled in track and was part of a State championship team. He then attended Western Michigan where he ran track before transferring to Michigan State University and continued to run track. Lou graduated with a bachelor’s degree in marketing in 1966. On July 24, 1967, he enlisted in the Michigan Army National Guard where he served until, he was honorably discharged.
On August 13, 1966 he was united in marriage to Marianne Kippehan. Lou worked for General Motors as part of the Pontiac division and called on dealers in Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, and Iowa before moving to Carroll. He started Lou Walsh Motors, Inc. in Carroll where he was the owner and president for 37 years before selling the dealership. Lou was a member of the State Board of Small Business Administration and a supporter of the Carroll Public library, St Anthony’s Hospital and countless other Carroll community projects. He also served as past president of the Carroll Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed boating, grilling, traveling, and spending time with his family. Lou and Marianne enjoyed being snowbirds in Arizona for over 12 years before permanently moving to Scottsdale.
Lou is preceded in death by his son Chuck Walsh; his parents; and his brother, Don and sisters, MaryLu and Beth Ann.
Lou is survived by his wife Marianne Walsh of Scottsdale; sons Ed Walsh (Allison) of Prescott, AZ, and Andy Walsh of Van Meter, IA; seven grandchildren: Hastings Walsh, Zachary Walsh, Samantha Walsh, Emersyn Walsh, Hannah Walsh, Olivia Walsh, and Mallory Walsh; and his Brothers Frank, Martin and Mike.
