Lorraine Hunter, age 86, of Arcadia, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia with Pastor Ben Dose officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 12:00 P.M. on Thursday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Marilyn Hundling and congregational hymns will be “Here I Am Lord”, “I Know My Redeemer Lives”, and “Just As I Am”. Casket bearers will be her grandsons: Christopher Hoogestraat, Jeremy Hoogestraat, Jesse Irlbeck, Michael Irlbeck, Joseph Berg, and Mark Berg. Burial will be in the Arcadia Cemetery.
Born on August 23, 1925 on her family’s farm north east of Arcadia where she also grew up. Lorraine was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. She graduated from Arcadia High School in 1943. She was married to John Hoogestraat on March 4, 1945 at her parent’s home. The couple lived in the Arcadia area and raised their four children. They divorced and she later married to Al Hunter in1970. Lorraine worked in various restaurants and her career was working at New Hope Village as direct care staff and as a certified med passer. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia where she served on the Ladies Aid She was a member of the Arcadia Community Club and the Arcadia Betterment Committee. Lorraine enjoyed gardening, flowers, the warmth of summer time, and being with her family and grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters: Linda Irlbeck and her husband Elmer of Westside and Kay Campbell of Arcadia; two sons Thomas Hoogestraat and his wife Diana of Glenwood, Iowa, and Steven Hoogestraat and his wife Joann of Carroll; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty great grandchildren. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Al in 1975, and a brother Leonard Bruggeman.
