Lori Ann Smith

Lori Ann Smith, age 57, of Coon Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at her home in Coon Rapids surrounded by her loving family.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Friday, May 27, 2022, at 10:30 A.M. at the American Legion Building in Coon Rapids with Pastor John Kult officiating. Honorary pall bearers will be her sons and grandsons: Josh Shirbroun, Jake Shirbroun, Jesse Shirbroun, Billy Behle, Dylan Shirbroun, Mason Shirbroun, Hunter Shirbroun, Aiden Shirbroun, and Bryor Behle. A private family burial will be held at a later date at the Orange Township Cemetery in rural Coon Rapids.

Lori was born September 20, 1964, at the Winterset Memorial Hospital in Winterset, Iowa and was the daughter of James and Laurel (Jeffs) Hildebrand. While growing up she lived in several different states before her family settled in Coon Rapids in 1983. She attended the Coon Rapids High School graduating with the Class of 1983. Following graduation, she was employed at the Drive Inn and Aztec Restaurant in Coon Rapids for a few years. At the age of 23, she began working for Thomas Rest Haven Nursing Home in Coon Rapids as a Certified Nurse’s Aide where she has worked until recently due to her health. Lori loved her job and cherished all the residents throughout the years she worked there.

In 1996, she met the love of her life, Kerry Shirbroun after a night of dancing in Coon Rapids. The couple blended their families and has relished the last 26 years together. Lori enjoyed life to the fullest whether it was tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, working on several different arts and crafts, spending time playing her favorite fishing slot machine at the casino or playing with her beloved dog Copper for 14 years. She also enjoyed fishing and hunting with Kerry and going on deer cruises every chance they would get. Most of all she loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her significant other of 26 years, Kerry Shirbroun of Coon Rapids, IA; children, Kalie (Billy) Behle of Altoona, IA, Josh Shirbroun, Jake (Jenn) Shirbroun, and Jesse Shirbroun and significant other Ashlen Romey all of Coon Rapids, IA; grandchildren, Dylan, Shayla, Ciara, Mason, Hunter, Aiden, Stormi, and Bryor; mother, Laurel (Jim) Butler of Atlantic, IA; father, Jim (Marilyn) Hildebrand of Carroll, IA; brothers,  Bret Hildebrand, Shane Hildebrand, and Jimmy Hildebrand; sisters, Misty Boes, and Shanna Shank; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Roland Behle; maternal grandparents, Russel (Glee) Anderson; paternal grandparents, Orson (Ethel) Hildebrand; step-grandparents, Gene (Dorothy) Boss; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Merle (Sherrill) Shirbroun.
