Lola was the daughter of Hugo and Ola Meisel Ress. She was born in Lincoln Township, in Audubon County on July 30, 1929. She was baptized on August 28, 1929 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township. Trinity is now a part of the Manning Hausbarn Heritage Park. The family moved to Manning, Iowa and she was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning on March 24, 1945. She was a proud member of Manning High School Class 1947.
On September 11, 1949 she married an Arcadia farmer, Vernon Ehlers. They farmed four miles south of Arcadia and eventually moved one and one-half miles east to the original “Ehlers” family farm. They were blessed with 64 years of marriage. She enjoyed being a “farmwife”, helping with the chores, milking cows, raising chickens, tending to a large garden to feed her family. She baked and decorated birthday and wedding cakes for many in the community. She enjoyed sewing clothes for the family. In later years she made quilts for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded into death by her beloved husband, Vernon, her parents & parents-in-law. Lola is one of the last of her generation except one brother, Vince (Alice) Ress and one sister-in-law Carolyn Ehlers. Her siblings that have gone on before her are 2 brothers Hugo Jr., and Ben Ress; and two sisters Ramona and Zita (Galen) Harms. Also preceding her were brothers & sisters in-law Elmer, Albert, Harold, Harvey (Adeline), Wilbert (Dort) Ehlers, Ruth (Dick) Novak, and Dorothy (Elmer) Bernstrauch.
She is survived by her three children, Carla (George) Robertson of Chandler, AZ; Larry (Kristin) Ehlers of Plano, TX; and Paul (Susan) Ehlers of Arcadia. She enjoyed being a grandmother to her eight grandchildren, Kristen (Aaron) Jacobs, Kelsey (Andrew) Lupole, Kimberly (Joey) Bauman, Tyler (Chelsey) Ehlers, Laura (Steve) Gomez, Julie Robertson, Kaitlyn Ehlers, and Lindsey (Mauricio) Muller. She was blessed with 14 great-grandchildren Addyson, Alaina, Kaylee, Elise, Kiera, Kasen, Krew, Jenna, Jacie, Asher, Ryder, Zachary, Anthony, and Charli.
