Lois Christine Wiebers, age 84, of Carroll and formerly of Arcadia passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at her home in Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, August 27, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia with Pastor Ben Dose officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Friday to lie in state until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Lisa McNelley and soloist will be Misty Thooft. Casket bearers will be Doug Schuette, Ross Schuette, Dennis Reetz, Mark Rickers, Butch Schroeder, and Alan Schroeder. Burial will be in the Arcadia Cemetery.
Born on December 27, 1925 at Arcadia, Iowa, she was the daughter of Henry and Minnie (Brandt) Preyt. She grew up in Arcadia and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1943. She was baptized on April 13, 1935 and confirmed on March 17, 1940 at Zion Lutheran Church by Pastor Theo Tews. Lois was married to John G. Wiebers on February 22, 1948 at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Arcadia also by Pastor Theo Tews. Lois worked for 43 years as the branch manager of the Carroll County State Bank in Arcadia. She had also worked as a teller and loan officer for the Auburn and Arcadia locations. Lois was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Arcadia and the Ladies Aid of the Church. She was also a member of the Woodmen of the World of which she had served as Treasurer and the Ehlers – Gerken American Legion Auxiliary of which she had served as Secretary Treasurer, and she had served as President of the Arcadia Cemetery Association. Lois had also served as the Treasurer of the City of Arcadia.
Surviving are her daughter Luanne Anderson and her husband Alan of Carroll; two granddaughters: Misty Thooft and her husband Joel of Lidderdale, and Dr. Melanie Cain and her husband Frank Jr. of Madison, Wisconsin; two great grandsons: Justin and Hayden Thooft; a sister Doreen Schoreder of Coon Rapids; and a sister-in-law Gladys Rickers of Arcadia. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and five sisters and their spouses: LaVerna Reetz and her husband Joe, Lucille Hinz and her husband Glenn, Arlene Brightwell and husband Dean, Jeanette Schuette and her husband LeRoy, and Velma Kroeger and her husband John.
