Lois Rohrbeck

Lois Rohrbeck, age 98, of Glidden, IA passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, IA.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden with Pastor Alan Miller officiating.  Organist for the service will be Becky Miller and guitarist and soloist will be Carl Wilburn.  Casket bearers will be Lois’ grandchildren: Mindy Irvine, Dusty Rohrbeck, Tyler Rohrbeck, Jason Rohrbeck, Meghan Chilcott, Nick Rohrbeck, and Zack Rohrbeck.  Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden.

Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 from 5 – 7 P.M. where there will be a prayer service held at 7 P.M.  The casket will be moved to Peace Lutheran Church at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M.

Lois was born on November 26, 1924 on her family’s farm in Audubon County, IA, and she was the daughter of Elmer and Lena (Faga) Carstens.  She grew up in the Adair area where she attended school.  Her family moved to Scranton and Lois worked at the Scranton Telephone Office.  Lois was married to Burton “Bud” Rohrbeck on October 3, 1948 at Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden by Pastor Stalling.  The couple farmed south of Ralston the first five years after their marriage before moving south of Glidden where they farmed for 36 years.  She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden where she served on the guild and enjoyed quilting with the ladies.  Lois has made her home for the past five years at Addington Place in Carroll where she received excellent care.  She enjoyed playing cards, quilting, tatting, crocheting, and spending time with her family.  Lois was famous for her apple pies.  Lois also enjoyed attending her family’s sporting activities and helping with vacation bible school at her church.

Lois is survived by four sons and their families: Randy Rohrbeck (Mary) of Parkville, MO, Reggy Rohrbeck (Faye) of Lake View, Monty Rohrbeck (Becky) of Glidden, and Jody Rohrbeck (Cheryl) of Grimes; seven grandchildren: Mindy Irvine (Zachary), Dusty Rohrbeck (Rachel), Tyler Rohrbeck (Jenny), Jason Rohrbeck (Alyssa Hickey), Nick Rohrbeck (Kelly), Zack Rohrbeck (Maggie Rizor), and Meghan Chilcott (Jeff); fourteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband Burton “Bud” Rohrbeck in 2001; her parents Elmer and Lena Carstens; her father and mother-in-law William and Amelia Rohrbeck; a sister Elva Rohrbeck (Marland); a brother Dale in infancy; and a granddaughter-in-law Cherie Rohrbeck.
