Lois L. Krogh

March 20, 1924 — September 21, 2008

Lois L. Krogh, 84, of Carroll died Sunday, September 21, 2008 at St. Anthony’s Nursing Home where she had been a resident since January, 2008. Lois was born on March 20, 1924 in Carroll, Iowa to Fred and Elsie (Hein) Kroeger. She graduated from Carroll High School in 1941 and moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan where she was employed by the Wilcox-Rich Company, a WWII airplane parts factory. On December 16, 1945, she married Ted Krogh in Kalamazoo and the couple returned to Carroll. Lois often spoke proudly of having worked as a secretary for the Carroll School system for many years, leaving that employment in the early 1960s to devote herself fulltime to raising her 4 children. Lois and Ted and their family enjoyed spending summers in their cottage on Black Hawk in Lake View, Iowa, where they also operated the local A&W Root Beer Drive-In for 10 years. Following Ted’s retirement, they lived there year-round for many years. Lois always considered Carroll her home, and she and Ted returned there to live in 2006. Lois loved playing bridge, going fishing in Canada with Ted, being active in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and various women’s groups, gardening, and spending time with her family. She will be sadly missed but remembered as a kind and generous woman who often went the extra mile to help her family members and friends. Lois is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ted Krogh of Carroll; a son, Jay Krogh and his wife, Jane of Urbandale; and three daughters: Jan Maxim and her husband, John of San Rafael, California; Jeri Sides and her husband Tony, of Cape Elizabeth, Maine; and Jill Gottlieb and her husband, Michael, of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; two sisters: Helen Johns of Menifee, California and Violet Kroeger of Lemon Grove, California; 10 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother and father-in-law, two brothers Merle and Russell Kroeger, and two sisters Harriett Dinda, Phyllis Rimbaugh. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Rev. David Anthony officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Thursday to lie in state until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Janet Hoff. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Faithe Gottlieb, Corey Sides, Sam Maxim, Robert Maxim, Chad Krogh, Clare Nagl, Chris Wulcow, Jennifer Wulcow, Tyler Wulcow, Tony Wulcow.
