Lois Elaine Budatz, age 87, of Carroll, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, March 15, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Brian Licht officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Friday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Tami Biggerstaff and congregational hymns will be “On Eagle’s Wings,” “Nearer My God to Thee” and “Abide With Me”. Casket bearers will be her grandsons: Chad Borkowski, Tony Borkowski, Jay Arnold, Gregory Puck, Bradley Puck, and Lois’ good friend Dick Tadsen. Burial will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Council Bluffs.
Born on August 23, 1925 at Council Bluffs, Iowa, she was the daughter of Charles Herbert and Dorothy Ella (Schroeder) Hayes. She grew up in Council Bluffs and graduated from Council Bluffs High School in 1943. She attended the Jenny Edmundson School of Nursing and earned her Registered Nursing degree. She was married to Billy Beryle Budatz on May 31, 1947 at Hiawatha, Kansas. Lois worked at Jenny Edmundson Hospital for several years before the couple moved to Audubon where she worked as the hospital administrator for Audubon County Memorial Hospital. In 1972 they moved to Missouri Valley and Lois Worked at Methodist Hospital in Omaha as the director of nursing for 20 years retiring in 1990. In 2001 Lois and Billy moved to Carroll to be close to their family. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and she enjoyed sewing, quilting, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and she was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan attending two games after age 80.
Lois is survived by three daughters: Judith Wilson and her husband Daniel of Ogden, Iowa; Linda Borkowski of Carroll; and Vicki Puck and her husband Ed of Carroll; six grandchildren: Chad Borkowski and his wife Linda, Tony Borkowski and his wife Jessica, Stacy Arnold and her husband Jay, Gregory Puck and his wife Cecily, Amy Rost and her husband Dan, and Bradley Puck and his wife Athena; and thirteen great grandchildren.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her step mother Vera Fuller Hayes, her husband Billy in 2003, a brother Donald Merle Hayes, and a great granddaughter Morgan.
