Lois Bierl, age 90, of Carroll passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at her home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll with Fr. Craig Collison as Celebrant. Lector for the Mass will be Austen Bierl. Gift bearers will be Lois’ granddaughters: Ariel Bierl, Kenzie Bierl, Alexa Bierl, Kelly Pick, Tami Gute, and Tacey Stoelk. Eucharistic Minister will be Michelle Phillips. Music for the Mass will be by Kate Cuddy and the St. Lawrence Choir with Sherry Loughran as cantor and special music by All Strings Attached. Casket bearers will be Corey Bierl, Troy Stoelk, Chris Bierl, Austen Bierl, Colby Bierl, and Colin Bierl. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to St. Lawrence Catholic Church and may be left at the funeral home or the church. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home after 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday where there will be a Rosary at 4:30 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 P.M. The casket will be moved to St. Lawrence Church at 9:30 A.M. on Thursday where visitation will resume until the time of Mass. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Lois’ family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on June 8, 1926 in Carroll, IA, she was the daughter of Tony “T.J.” and Mary (Wieland) Kanne. Lois was a lifelong resident of Carroll and graduated from St. Angela’s Academy. Following high school she worked for Montgomery Ward as a clerk. She was introduced to her future husband, Harold Bierl, by their mutual friend Jack Happe. Lois and Harold were married on June 24, 1946 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. Lois was community oriented, and so proud of Carroll the place she was born, raised, baptized, married and raised all of 4 of her children. When she married Harold in 1944 it was a marriage for life and together they worked hard to raise their children, while still balancing the family business and nourishing strong relationships with family and friends. All of Lois’s life she has relished her faith and her profound respect and strong beliefs of the Catholic Church and has been a lifelong member of St. Lawrence Church. Lois enjoyed her family right up to her last days. She loved her four children, 12 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren and had a special bond and connection with each of them individually. Her legacy will be the love she had for her family, and her pride in her children’s accomplishments, work ethics, and life values. Lois is survived by her four children and their families: Carol Stoelk of Carroll, Kevin Bierl (Margie) of Scottsdale, AZ, Randy Bierl (Jane) of Carroll, and Todd Bierl (Jodi) of Carroll; twelve grandchildren: Tami Gute (Don) of Carroll, Tacey Stoelk of Carroll, Corey Bierl (Molly) of Shawnee, KS, Troy Stoelk (Steph) of Carroll, Kelly Pick (Dr. Aaron) of Carroll, Chris Bierl (Germaine) of Des Moines, Ariel Bierl of Scottsdale, AZ, Austen Bierl (Sara) of Scottsdale, AZ, Colby Bierl of Urbandale, Colin Bierl (Brooke) of Carroll, Kenzie Bierl of Carroll, and Alexa Bierl of SanDiego, CA; eleven great grandchildren: Kody, Kameron, Chandler, Connor, Clare, Caitlin, Ella, Evan, Calton, Zavie, Breya, and two on the way; two sisters: her twin Lucille Schaefer of Denver, Co, and Bernice Pudenz of Carroll; a brother-in-law Dennis Bierl of Kimbalton; a sister-in-law Doris Bierl of Fairmont, MN; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lois was preceded in death by her parents Tony and Mary Kanne; her father and mother-in-law Ed and Theresa Bierl; her husband Harold in 2006; brother Jim Kanne; son-in-law Greg Stoelk; sister-in-law Marcella Kanne; two brothers-in-law Robert Schaefer and Leonard Pudenz; and a son Gerard Bierl in infancy.
