Lloyd Edward Davis, age 91, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and formerly of Glidden, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at Sanford House Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at the Glidden United Methodist Church with Rev. Jessica Rockhold officiating. Organist for the service will be Mary Ross and Al Bossman will be soloist. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5:00 P.M. on Monday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday to lie in state until the time of service. Casket bearers will be grandsons: Monte Wagner, Michael Wagner, Scott Bossman, and great grandsons: Joshua Wagner, Cody Wagner, Tate Wagner, Shane Wagner, and Joel Wagner. Honorary casket bearers will be Great Grandchildren: Hailey Wagner, Paige Wagner, Cole Sundem, Carson Davis Sundem, Jalen Wagner, Deja Johnson, Genet Johnson, Elijah Johnson, Benjamin Bossman and Samuel Bossman. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden with military honors by the Merle Hay Post of the American Legion of Glidden with bugler Kathy Nees.
Born on November 11, 1918 at Cooper, Iowa, he was the son of Claude and Mabel (Pike) Davis. He grew up in the Jefferson area where he attended school. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1943 and served in Africa. He was married to Leah Markley on July 9, 1944 at Jefferson, Iowa. The couple lived in Farlin and Churdan before moving to Glidden in 1946. Lloyd was a lifelong farmer until retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Glidden United Methodist Church where he served on various boards and helped build the new church. He was also a member of the Merle Hay Post of the American Legion in Glidden. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years, and in later years square dancing, playing cards, and watching his grandchildren play sports. He was honored as Parade Marshall in the Glidden Memorial Day Parade in 2005.
Surviving are his wife Leah of Sioux Falls; a daughter Kay Bossman and her husband Alan of Sioux Falls; five grandchildren: Monte Wagner and his wife Kristi of Platte, South Dakota, Michael Wagner and his wife Jeanne of Rapid City, South Dakota, Tara Sundem and her husband Chad of Gilbert, Arizona, Kami Johnson of Gilbert, Arizona, and Scott Bossman and his wife Donna of Onalaska, Wisconsin; fifteen great grandchildren: Joshua, Cody, Tate, Hailey, Shane, Joel, Paige, Cole, Carson, Jaelen, Daeja, Genet, Elijah, Benjamin, and Samuel; a sister Vivian Adams and her husband Harold of Elk River, Minnesota; a sister Betty Barrow of Jefferson; a brother Leo Davis and his wife Jean of Jefferson; a brother Dean Davis and his wife Susan of Glidden; and a sister-in-law Donna Kernen and her husband Lysle of Paradise, California. He was preceded in death by parents, brothers Lyle and Donald Davis, and sisters Ione Toyne and Dorothy Logan.
