Linda Gibson

Linda Gibson, age 82, of Scranton, IA, passed away on Monday, December 26, 2022 at Glen Oaks Care Center in Urbandale surrounded by her family.

A Celebration of Linda’s life will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at the Scranton Community Building from 1 – 3 P.M.  A private graveside service will be held at the Scranton Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Scranton Community Center.

Linda was born on March 5, 1940 in Carroll, IA, and she was the daughter of Alex and Grace (Pulliam) Feilmeyer. She grew up in Guthrie Center and Perry and graduated from Perry High School.  Linda moved to Des Moines following high school and worked at Methodist Hospital as a CNA.  She was married to Dean Gibson on September 8, 1962 at the Catholic Church in Perry.  The couple made their home in Scranton.  They farmed in the Scranton area all their married life.  Linda had a strong love for children and ran an in-home day care for many years.  She enjoyed cooking, shopping, going for walks, going to movies, eating out, and spending time with her family.

Linda is survived by her six children and their families: son Mike Gibson (Jill) of Scranton, daughter Lisa Bates (Edwin) of Waukee, daughter Julie Ireland (Matt) of Adel, son Mark Gibson (Tracey) of Ankeny, daughter Angela Gibson (Jeff Russell) of Des Moines, and son Jason Gibson (Angie) of Boone; fourteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law Donald “Chop” Gibson (Delores) of Scranton; a sister-in-law Judy Gibson of Carroll; and two brothers-in-law: Norman Brown of Atlanta, GA, and John Burkett of Medford, OR; and several nieces and nephews.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband Dean Gibson; a son Bradley; her parents Alex and Grace Feilmeyer; her father and mother-in-law Bill and Madge Gibson; two sisters: Kay Brown and Jan Burkett; a brother-in-law Denis Gibson.
