Letha Edith Grundmeier, age 85, of Carroll passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Brian Licht officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Friday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Tammi Biggerstaff. Casket bearers will be Dave Peters, Steve O’Tool, George Ott, and Denis Schirck. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.
Born on July 14, 1928 in Carroll, she was the daughter of Hugo and Anna (Mergele) Grundmeier. She was baptized on May 19, 1935 by Rev. Albert J. Mueller and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 29, 2942 by Rev. A.O. Bleeke. Letha was raised in Carroll and graduated from Carroll High School in 1946. She was employed by Heider Manufacturing for one year after graduation. She then worked for Carroll County for 43 years; ten years as an assistant to the County Director of Relief and thirty three years as Deputy County Auditor, retiring in July of 1990.
Letha was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll all of her life. She served as secretary to the Church Council and as a member of the board of education and the finance board. She was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Guild and Lydia Circle. She served as reporter and historian for the guild for ten years. Letha had been a member of the Thursday afternoon Bible class, the Sunday morning Bible class and Life Light Bible class. She enjoyed reading, counted cross stitching, golfing, following the Iowa Hawkeyes, and following professional golf. She especially enjoyed the company of her little Chihuahua “Kookie” for sixteen years.
Letha is survived by her sister Marie Dion of Carroll; two sisters-in-law: Pat Grundmeier of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and Dorothy Knudson of Manning; and several nieces and nephews. Letha was preceded in death by her parents, twin sisters in infancy, and four brothers: Ralph, Harold “Stub”, Orren, and Rev. Russell.
