Lester Luverne Subbert, age 84, of Carroll, Iowa passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
Born on January 26, 1924 at Lidderdale, Iowa, he was the son of Herman and Rose (Wenck) Subbert. He was baptized on February 17, 1924 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale by Pastor H.P. Schmidt. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School in Lidderdale as a boy and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 21, 1947 by Pastor Rudolph Herrmann. Lester was married to Ruth Zeller of St. Louis Missouri on November 30, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale by Pastor Herrmann. He farmed and did custom corn shelling. He worked for Gus Schroeder of Wall Lake and Tom Conner of Glidden. He moved to Carroll in 1956 and drove a tank truck for Sam Hyland and for Matt Neppel. He also worked at the Carroll Rec Center until he retired for health reasons. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, word find puzzles, and visiting his children and grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife Ruth Ann of Carroll; a daughter Sandra R. Koren and her husband Steve of Kansas City, Missouri; a son Thomas G. Subbert and his wife Diane of Bartonville, Illinois; a son Keith A. Subbert of Carroll; and the following grandchildren: Michael Subbert and his wife Julie, Brian Subbert and his wife Leann, Jay Subbert and his wife Cari, Chad Koren and his wife Renee, and Beth Koren; and the following great grandchildren: Carson, Riley, Hailey, Laina, Hannah, Benjamin, Jordan, and Aubree. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Herman and his wife Luella, a brother Ervin and his wife Eleanor, and a sister Viola Anderson and her husband Allen.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale with Rev. Raymond Reinbolt officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Monday to lie in state until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Mrs. Agnes Onken. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Lidderdale. Casket bearers will be Ron Venteicher, Duane Kruse, Larry Sporrer, Randy Hoffman, Robert Subbert, and Ron Roe. Honorary casket bearers will be Richard Onken, Alvin Koren, Elmer Kruse, and Larry Feltner.
