Lester Knute

Lester John Knute, age 93, of Glidden passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden with Pastor Alan Miller officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5:00 P.M. on Friday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Becky Miller. Congregational hymns will be “Amazing Grace”, “Old Rugged Cross”, and “How Great Thou Art”. Casket bearers will be Grandsons: Brett Rosenau, Nick Knute, Matt Stokes, Chad Krogh, Jackson Greteman, and Don Tuel. Honorary casket bearers will be Stacy Luken, Heather Techmeier, Jen Wallace, Clare Nagl, Katie Tuel, and Kim Stokes. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Born on June 5, 1920 south of Lidderdale, he was the son of Henry and Tena (Fleshner) Knute. Les was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at St. John Lutheran Church north of Glidden. He grew up on his family’s farm and attended Jasper Township Country School. Following school Les farmed with his father. He was married to Lorna Rose on June 29, 1947 at Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden. The couple lived on the family farm where they raised their four children. They moved into Glidden in 1988 and Les retired from farming in 1990. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden where he served on the Sunday school board. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, gardening, following the Glidden Wildcats and the Chicago Cubs. Les is survived by his wife Lorna of Glidden; a son Roger Knute and his wife Kris of Carroll; three daughters: Diane Krogh of Carroll, Sue Rosenau and her husband Paul of Prior Lake, MN, and Karla Stokes and her husband Mark of Ankeny, IA; ten grandchildren: Chad Krogh (Sara) of Wake Forest, NC, Clare Nagl (Eric) of Carroll, Jen Wallace (Chris) of Glidden, Nick Knute (Sarah) of Waukee, IA, Brett Rosenau (Tynisa) of New Glarus, WI, Stacy Luken of Prior Lake, MN, Heather Techmeier (Kurt) Muskego, WI, Katie Tuel (Don) of Glidden, Kim Stokes (fiancé Anthony Daniel) of Pleasant Hill, IA, and Matt Stokes (Emily) Nevada, IA; eighteen great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Gladys Hansen of Audubon, IA and Louise Bruhn and her husband Bill of Manning, IA; a brother-in-law Harry Rose and his wife Florence of Carroll; and several nieces and nephews. Les was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Jill Knute, a great granddaughter Makayla Pike, and a sister Fern Berns and her husband Fred.
