Leonard Goodwin

August 12, 1919 — June 3, 2012

Leonard M. Goodwin, age 92, of Glidden passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home in Carroll. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Glidden with Rev. Lorinda Hoover officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home after 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Thursday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Doris Bentley and Rev. Dennis Bailey will play the guitar and sing “How Great Thou Art” and “The Old Rugged Cross” and the congregation will sing “Hymn of Promise”. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Casket bearers will be Bud Toms, Glenn Winker, Kenny Stubbee, Eldon Thompson, Dan Campbell, and Mike Lloyd. Born on August 12, 1919 at Willey, Iowa, he was the son of Elmer and Mary (Nagl) Goodwin. Leonard grew up in the Dedham and Willey area where he attended country school. He was married to Rebecca Adams on January 17, 1941 at Morgantown, West Virginia. Leonard worked for the Deluxe Cleaners in Carroll for 20 years and then the Lake City Coop for 20 years. He also drove the school bus in Glidden for 13 years. Leonard lived south of Glidden for many years and moved into town in 1947 where he lived until moving to the Carroll Health Center in 2008. Leonard was a member of the United Methodist Church of Glidden. He enjoyed watching the Glidden Wildcats play across the street from his house, watching sports on television, and playing cards. Surviving are his daughter Linda Turner and her husband Raymond “LeRoy” of Glidden; a granddaughter Trish Pedersen and her husband Steve of Black Forest, Colorado; two great granddaughters: Arianna and Kaitlyn Pedersen; a sister-in-law Francis Adams of West Virginia; and two nephews and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rebecca, a son Robert, a sister Bernadine and two brothers Kenneth and Leonard in infancy.
