Leonard Feilmeier, age 82, of Glidden passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at St Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden, with Father Andrew Hoffman as celebrant. Visitation will be held at the church one hour before service. Music for the Mass will be by Mary Ross as organist and the St. Elizabeth Seton Choir. Lector for the Mass will be Alex Feilmeier. Gift bearers will be Cindy Riesselman and Cindy Janning. Casket bearers will be Bob Dentlinger, Randy Daniel, Ken Jensen, Jeff Feilmeier, Paul Muhlbauer, and Keith Jensen. Honorary casket bearers will be Leonard’s grandchildren. Military honors will be by Merle Hay Post of the American Legion. A memorial fund has been established in memory of Leonard. Memorials may be left at church or mailed to the family. Burial will be in Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Born on April 7, 1933 in Templeton, Iowa, Leonard was the son of Wendelin and Clara (Willenborg) Feilmeier. He attended Holy Angels school in Roselle until the 8th grade. Leonard served in the US Army beginning in January of 1954. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the UN Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal, and was honorably discharged on October 25, 1955. He was married to Marcia Nair on April 27, 1963 at St. Joseph’s Church in Dedham by Father Meyer. The couple moved to Glidden in 1965. Leonard worked for West Central Coop for more than 30 years, retiring in 1995. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, feeding birds & squirrels, walking the town, socializing, casinos, traveling, and watching his favorite sports teams: the Cleveland Browns, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Glidden Wildcats, especially when grandchildren were playing. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church and Merle Hay Post of the American Legion. Leonard is survived by his wife Marcia of 52 years, daughter Barb (Mike) Rath of Glidden, Sons Lenny (Lisa) Feilmeier of Ralston and Jim (Kathy) Feilmeier of Guthrie Center, Iowa, Grandchildren: Alex (Ashley) Feilmeier, Danny Feilmeier, Noah Feilmeier, Maddie Feilmeier, Alicia (Addison) Patrick, Krysten Rath, Jake Rath, Jenny Rath, sister Rita (Jim) Dentlinger of Glidden, brother Bernie Feilmeier of Carroll, Sisters-in-law Irene Feilmeier of Westside, Margie Feilmeier of Carroll, Janis Feilmeier of Coon Rapids, MN, Ruth Jensen of Imperial, MO, brother-in-law Bob (Joann) Nair of Des Moines, several nieces and nephews and friends and relatives. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law Merlin and Emma Nair; sons: Danny, Donny, and Dale; sisters: Mary, Laura, and Marie; brothers: Rudy, Al, Earl, Junior, and Edwin; Sister-in-law Mary; Brothers-in-law Ed, Tony, Henry and Larry.
