Leo Bolster, age 82, of Carroll, Iowa died at the St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll on Monday June 21, 2010.
Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM on Thursday June 24, 2010 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Father Timothy Johnson of Holy Spirit Catholic Church officiating. Friends may Call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 PM on Wednesday where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 PM. Interment will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Military Graveside Rites with be given by Maurice Dunn Post of the American Legion. Casket Bearers will be Adam Bolster, Andrew Bolster, Tim Halbur, Teresa Bolster, Don Schmitz and Fran Bolster.
Leo was born on December 25, 1927 at Carroll Iowa and was the son of Matt and Anna(Vogt) Bolster. He was married to Elaine Eischeid on September 22, 1953 at Carroll, Iowa. As a young boy he attended St. Peter and Paul Catholic School. Leo entered the military service in 1946 and served in the army until 1950. During his tour of duty he served in the Mediterranean theater of operations in Italy. He was employed as a Gas lineman for Iowa Electric Light and Power Company for many years retiring in 1986. Leo was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Maurice Dunn Post of the American Legion, the VFW, and he had been a member of the Moose Lodge of Carroll. In his spare time he enjoyed the wild life at swan Lake, especially watching the deer and the swans , gardening, going to the Casino, camping and fishing with his long time partner Mary Wessling, playing cards, watching game shows, watching football on TV especially Bret Favre.
Surviving are two daughters: JoAnn Schumacher and her husband Marty of Willey and Deanne Simons and her friend Judy Broich of Carroll; two sons: Mike Bolster and his wife Cindy of Carroll and Matt Bolster of Ames; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a sister-in-law Elva Bolster of Willard, Utah; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Becky, Tom, Bob,and Cindy and their children and grandchildren. They are the family of his long time Partner, Mary Wessling, who died on November 25, 2008. He is also preceded in death by his parents and his wife Elaine in 1972 and brothers: Al, Ed, Norbert, Barney and Clarence.
