Mrs. Lena Elizabeth Reicks age 94 of Carroll and formerly of Scranton died at the St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll on June 22, 2009 where she has made her home for the past eight years.
Lena was born on July 7, 1914 at Willey, Iowa and was the daughter of John and Anna ( Venteicher) Bauer. She lived and went to School in Willey. She was married to Lambert Reicks on October27, 1936 at St. Mary’sCatholic Church in Willey, Iowa. The Reicks’ lived in Willey, Carroll and Scranton area all their married life. Lena was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, the Ladies Guild of the Church and the Catholic Daughters of Americas and a member of the Varci Club.In her working years she worked at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll and Greene Co. Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa.
Lena was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She shared her love ,hugs , talents and wisdom through her generosity and kindness and was always one to offer a kind and compassionate word or deed to her family and friends.
She is survived by two daughters LeeAnn (Bell) Hughes and her husband Larry of Scranton, Iowa and LaVonne Sisson and her husband Gene of Ewing, Nebraska, 7 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren and a sister Marion Bauer of Maple River, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 6 brother: Max, Conrad, John, Herman, Clarence and Melvin and 4 sisters Minnie Tigges, Mary Langel, Regine Wiskus and Theresa Wiskus, 2 grandsons Mark and Jay Sisson and 1 son in law Gary Bell.
Mass of the Christian Burial will at 11 Am on Friday June 26 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Scranton with Father Steven McLoud as celebrant. Lector will be Ruth Naberhaus. Gift Bearers will be Yvonne Broich, Bernita Broich, Arlene Brincks, Betty Riesenberg and Ervin Bauer. Organist for the Mass will be Richard Carey and soloist will be Larry Dowd.Casket bearers will be grandsons: Rock Bell, Russ Bell, Roger Bell, Troy Gibson, Ken Kunz and Jason Stamp. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Rochelle(Shelli) Gibson, Rachel Bell, Cathy Bell, Jan Kunz ,Jill Stamp and Joy Sisson.
Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton after 4:30 PM on Thursday where there will be a Rosary at 5PM by The Catholic Daughters of the Americas and a Christian Wake service at 7PM by the Parish.Interment will be in the Scranton Cemetery at Scranton, Iowa
