Lelah Francis Peters, age 98, of Carroll, Iowa, passed away on April 22, 2014 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, April 25, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church in Carroll with Rev. Rikki Sorensen officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Friday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Ellen Severin. Pall bearers will be Tye Peters, Dr. David Martin, Duane Peiffer, Jim Eischeid, Frank Eischeid, Kevin Eischeid, and Leo Kasparbauer. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, and in respect to Lelah’s love for dogs, the family suggests memorials be made to 3 Labs Foundation and may be left at the funeral home or the church.
Born on April 4, 1916 in Lake View, Iowa, she was the daughter of William and Edith (Heller) Belt. She grew up in the Lake View – Sac City area and graduated from Lake View High School in 1933. Lelah worked as a bookkeeper at the Sac County Treasurer’s office for many years. She was married to Clark Peters on October 13, 1940 at First Presbyterian Church in Carroll by Rev. Daniels. Lelah worked along with Clark at their car dealership, Peters Motors, for many years.
In the community, Lelah was on the board of the Carroll Recreation Center from 1998-2003 and was active member until 2009. She particularly enjoyed knitting with friend, Judy Stockbridge and others at the Carroll Public Library. Duplicate bridge was a favorite activity and she was a masterpoint champion. She took up golf at age 70.
Survivors include a son Richard C. Peters and his wife Cyndy of Yorktown, Virginia, and their children Tara Galvez (Eric) and sons Quinton and Braylon and Tye Peters (Brittney Roberson); a son Robert W. Peters and his wife Joanie of Carroll and their family including Lucky, Rosie, Goldie and Buzz; a daughter Connee L. Peters-Reau and her husband Bob of Salem, Oregon, and their children Amy Reau, Dana Franke (Doug) and their sons: Geno, Chad, Justin (Jolynn) and Josh (Ashley) with their daughter, Lucy Mae; and Devon Hales and her daughter, Jessica and son, Trey. Lelah was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Clark in 2002.
