Leah May Fengel, age 93, of Scranton passed away on Christmas Eve after a lengthy stay at the Jefferson Manor Nursing Home. Her family was blessed to be with her at the time of her passing. Leah was a life-long resident of Scranton. Born on May 1, 1914 at Scranton she was the daughter of Sam and Mabel (Ellsworth) Woodhouse. She was married to James Henry Fengel of Villisca on April 3, 1938 in Scranton and had two children Sam and Linda. She graduated from Scranton High School in 1932. She worked for the Scranton Telephone Company for many years. After her employment at the telephone company she opened her own dress shop on Main Street in Scranton. Leah and James were blessed with 54 happy and loving years together. They were involved in many activities, but particularly enjoyed their trips to Estes Park and entertaining their friends and family. Leah was also a member of bridge clubs, bowling league, Eastern Star, Rainbow, the Philemon Club, and the UMW. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Scranton. She is survived by a son Sam Fengel and his wife Carol of Scranton; a daughter Linda Hoyt and her husband Dale of Scranton; six grandchildren: Michael Hoyt and his wife Tracy of Barrington, Rhode Island, Kristine Jouanne of Paris, France, Matthew Hoyt and his wife Susan of Allen, Texas, Andrew Hoyt and his wife Angie of Woodward, Iowa, Chad Fengel and his wife Lissa of Sioux City, Iowa, and Jill Thomas and her husband Calvin of Weston, Florida; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters: Donna Buckley of DesMoines and Norma Ferguson of Jefferson, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband James, her parents, and two sisters: Doris Dunlop and Gwen Moosburg. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton with Pastor Brent DeSilva officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton from noon on Thursday until the time of service. Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery near Scranton.
