Leah Ellen Gregory Byerly
Leah Byerly, age 89, died Sunday, January 20, 2008, at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City.
Leah was born August 3, 1918 at the family home on her grandparents’ farm north of Ralston, Iowa to, Frank Ross Berryman and Anna Amelia (Hartwigsen) Gregory. She attended school in Ralston through the ninth grade, and graduated from Glidden High School.
She cleaned houses for ladies in Ralston until her marriage to Lynn Byerly on April, 7, 1939 at Tekamah, Nebraska. She helped her husband farm south of Glidden and show mules at the Iowa and Missouri State Fairs. She always raised a big garden and enjoyed growing flowers. She had the ability to decorate her home using ideas from magazines and items she had in her home.
Following her husband’s death in December of 1977, she moved into Glidden. She enjoyed shopping and eating out with her sisters.
Survivors include two nieces and two nephews and their families: Janet McCririe of California; Pam Thompson and husband Stan of Scranton; Allen Overmyer of California; and Randy Kernen and wife Sherry of Glidden.
She was preceded in death by her parent, husband, three sisters: Orah Overmyer and her husband Roland; Dorthea Bender and her husband Harold; and Helen Kernen and her husband Randolph; and by two nephews Roland Overmyer Jr. and Dean Overmyer.
