Lawrence Joseph Wieland

Lawrence “Larry” Joseph Wieland, age 65, of Carroll passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Born on April 12, 1943 at Carroll, Iowa, he was the son of Norbert and Margaret (Vonnahme) Wieland. He grew up in Carroll and attended St. Lawrence School. Larry was a heavy equipment operator for road construction in his younger years and later raised hogs and worked as a truck driver hauling livestock. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll. Surviving are two sons: Norbert Wieland and Christopher Wieland; four sisters: Alice Kramer and her husband Donald of Lake City, Iowa, Margaret Venteicher and her husband Linus of Corning, Iowa, Mary Kruse and her husband Robert of Manning, Iowa, and Virginia Croghan and her husband William of Templeton, Iowa; a brother Bernard Wieland and his wife Karen of Templeton, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a twin brother Leonard, and a brother-in-law John Croghan. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with Rev. Timothy Johnson as Celebrant. Friends may call at the Dahn & Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:00 P.M. on Friday where there will be a rosary at 4:30 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 7:30 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Saturday to lie in state until the time of service. Lectors for the mass will be his sisters Mary Kruse and Margaret Venteicher. Gift bearers will be Brian Croghan, Bev Finley, and Karla Cruz. Mass servers will be Kristina Wieland, Colby Hannasch, and Jacob Hannasch. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Casket bearers will be nephews: Jim Kramer, Kevin Wieland, Steve Croghan, Brian Croghan, Patrick Venteicher, and Corey Wieland.
