LaVonne Marie Peter, age 71, of Dedham, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, October 3, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham with Fr. Andrew Hoffmann as Celebrant assisted by Deacon Louis Meiners. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a rosary at 4:00 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Monday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Music will be by the St. Joseph’s Choir. Lector for the Mass will be Joleen Stork. Gift bearers will be Jackie Sward, Cindy Klink, and Jo Ann Johnson. Mass servers will be Kendra and Kalee Peter. Burial will be in the St. Jospeh’s Cemetery in Dedham. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll. Born on May 9, 1940 at Guthrie County, she was the daughter of Roy and Dorothea (Meyers) Fick. She grew up in Glidden where she attended school until the 5th grade at which time she attended the Old Carrollton School. LaVonne graduated from Glidden High School in 1958. Her nickname growing up was “Tootie”. She worked at various restaurants while going to school and after graduation she went to work at the F.W. Woolworth Company in Carroll as a part-time bookkeeper and sales clerk until her marriage. On October 21, 1961 LaVonne married Alfred E. Peter at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham, Iowa with Father Henry Meyer officiating. After their marriage they lived in Coon Rapids where she worked at the Garst Store. After living in Coon Rapids for six years they moved to Dedham and purchased a trucking and corn shelling business and built a new home which was completed in January of 1976. She has worked at New Hope Village in a group home for several years. LaVonne was a member of St. Jospeh’s Catholic Church in Dedham, the church guild, and the Dedham American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are her husband Alfred E. Peter of Dedham, Iowa; two sisters: LuEtta Wiederin and her husband Don of Scranton, Iowa, and Sharon Scharfenkamp and her husband Paul of Ames, Iowa; a brother LeRoy Fick and his wife Gloria of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; four sisters-in-law: Betty Riesenberg of Carroll, Iowa, Theresa Riesenberg LaVerne of Halbur, Iowa, Frances Wieland and her husband Kenneth “Shorty” of Templeton, Iowa, and Carol Irlmeier and her husband Vernon of Glidden, Iowa; a brother-in-law Robert Peter and his wife Jane of Dedham, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and two children in infancy Becky Jo and Mark Allen.
