Laverne Bauer

Laverne B. Bauer, 80, of Carroll passed away in his sleep on Saturday April 19th, 2008. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. Burial will be in the Mt Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Dahn & Woodhouse Funeral home in Carroll after 4:00 pm Wednesday April 23rd where there will be a rosary at 4:30 pm and a Christian Wake service at 7 pm. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 on Thursday to lie in state until the time of service. Soloist will be John Wagner and the Holy Spirit Choir will sing. Casket bearers will be John Bauer, Jim Bauer, Kevin Poen, Brian Goetzinger, Brandt Sharp and Cory Nelson. Lector for the mass will be Cathy Pfannkuch. Gift bearers will be Stephanie Bauer and Brenda Brink. La Verne was born May 14th 1927 in Carroll Iowa to John & Bertha Bauer. He lived in the Carroll area all of his life. On Dec. 30th, 1947 he married Mabel Cornelius. Laverne was employed by Heider Mfg from 1948 until 1984 & then for Scranton Mfg until retiring in 1993. He helped design and manufacture new products. LaVerne always enjoyed visits with his children, grand children & great grandchildren. He was very handy when it came time to design a gadget or fix broken items for his friends and family. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. LaVerne loved listening to Chicago Cubs baseball on the radio. Survivors include: his son, Ron and his wife Deb of Urbandale, daughter’s in-law Pat Bauer of Omaha; a daughter-in-law Cori (Bauer) Brinker of Carroll; and son in-law Dick Anthony of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Don and wife Joan of Manilla, and a sister, Betty Poen and her husband Robert of Lake City. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mabel, two sons La Verne John and Randy; his daughter Donna Anthony, his sister Darlene Goetzinger, and a great granddaughter Dakota Bauer.
