     Kerry “Sam” Newbanks Sr., age 79, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

     Funeral services will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll at 11 A.M. on Friday, March 20, 2026 with Pastor Blake Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in the Lanesboro Cemetery at a later date.

     Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 9:30 – 10:45 A.M. on Friday prior to the funeral service.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested for a later designation.

      Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com

     Sam, as he was affectionately known, was born on April 29, 1946 in Lake City, IA, and he was the son of John Phillip and Helen Irene (Fielding) Newbanks. He grew up in Lohrville, IA, where he graduated from high school in 1964. He served in the United States Air Force for four years. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Iowa and worked in Des Moines for a short time. Sam was married to Nola Humm on February 8, 1969 at the Christian Church in Lohrville. The couple made their home in Carroll where they raised their two children Kerry Jr. and Stacy. Sam worked at Napa Auto Parts before his 23-year career with Crouse Cartage until its closing when he went to work for O’Halloran International, retiring in 2016. In retirement, Sam enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and grandkids. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll.

     Sam is survived by his wife Nola of Carroll; his children and their families: Kerry Newbanks Jr. of Ames and Stacy DeYoung (David) of Halbur; four grandchildren: Samantha Corona (Luis), Jordan Newbanks (Karlee Godbey), Bailey Caldwell (Gabe), and Chase DeYoung; a sister Roxie Rapino (David) of Oklahoma; a brother John Newbanks of California; two sisters-in-law Elsie Armstrong (Lewis) of Missouri, and Twila Beckman (Larry) of Carroll; and several nieces and nephews.

     Sam was preceded in death by his parents John Phillip and Helen Newbanks; his in-laws Harold and Beulah Humm; and a sister Peggy Newbanks.
