Kenneth Lee Petersen, age 77, of Westside, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 5, 2010 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, July 8, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia with Pastor Ben Dohse officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Friday to lie in state until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Lisa McNelley and the congregation will sing. Casket bearers will be grandsons: Aaron Petersen, Nick Petersen, Matt Petersen, Tyler Petersen, Nate Petersen, Brandon Petersen, and Jerad Nobiling. Honorary casket bearers will grandchildren: Jamie Feauto, Jenni Middleton, Brooke Petersen, Stacey Hilligoss, Nicole Petersen, Kory Petersen, Jake Nobiling, and Zach Petersen. Burial will be in the Westside Cemetery.
Born on October 21, 1932 in Carroll he was the son of Harry and Bertha (Vetter) Petersen. Kenny, as he was known to most, grew up on a farm five miles south of Westside. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. He attended country school as a boy and graduated from Westside High School in 1950. After high school Kenny farmed with his Dad and did custom farming, corn shelling, and hay bailing for other farmers in the area. He was married to Audrey Hess on June 14, 1953 at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia by Pastor Theodore Tews. After their marriage the couple farmed one and a half miles south of Westside and then moved to the Petersen family farm, five miles south of Westside, in 1962. In 1993 Kenny and Audrey moved into Westside. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. In his spare time Kenny enjoyed baking bread with his wife, fishing, camping, gardening, and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife Audrey Petersen of Westside; his mother-in-law Angeline Hess of Carroll; five boys: Randy Petersen of Westside, Ricky Petersen (Linda) of Denison, Ron Petersen (Donna) of Carroll, Rodney Petersen (Karla) of Council Bluffs, Ross Petersen (Missi Brink) of Denison; one daughter Roxanne Nobiling (Dale) of Council Bluffs; fourteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; an Aunt Amelia Vetter of Carroll; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law Martine Hess, a brother Larry Petersen in 1960 and a granddaughter Kristy Jo Petersen in 1999.
