Kenneth “Doc” Gerald Walker, age 94, of Carroll passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, July 24, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll with Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating. Organist for the service will be Nancy Davis. Casket bearers will be Ken’s grandchildren: Chris Obrecht, Tony Obrecht, Kyle Obrecht, Tom Irlbeck Jr., Rose Irlbeck, Caleb Walker, Dillon Walker, Madeline Walker, Rick Lawler, Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:30 A.M. on Monday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on May 9, 1923 on his grandparent’s farm near Pisgah, IA, he was the son of George and Rosa (McWilliams) Walker. Ken’s family moved to Sioux City when he was a baby. He grew up in Sioux City and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942. Ken was stationed in Cape May, NJ where he was an Aviation Machinist Mate patrolling the Atlantic Ocean for submarines. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on November 11, 1945 and continued living in New Jersey working several different jobs. He was married to Mildred Marie Brown on March 18, 1952 at the Presbyterian Church in Clymer, PA. The couple moved to Ponca, Nebraska where Ken worked at Armour Meat Packing in Sioux City and later went to work as a part’s manager at Knerl Ford in Ponca, NE. Ken and Mildred moved to Schleswig in 1963 and he went to work for Farmland Foods as a Federal Meat Inspector. They moved to Carroll in 1974 where Ken continued to work as a meat inspector. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Carroll and the Carroll American Legion. He was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Ken enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family. Ken is survived by his wife Mildred of Carroll; two daughters: Sandra Obrecht of Carroll and Janice Irlbeck and her husband Tom of Mt. Carmel; a son Carl Walker of Taiwan; eight grandchildren: Chris Obrecht and his wife Michelle of Illinois, Tony Obrecht and his wife Trish of Carroll, Kyle Obrecht and his wife Ashlie of Iowa City, Tom Irlbeck Jr. and his wife Brianne of Kansas City, MO, Rose Irlbeck of Iowa City, Caleb Walker of Reno, NV, Dillon Walker and his wife Kaitlyn of Mason City, and Madeline Walker of Minneapolis; 12 great grandchildren and one on the way!!; a step-sister Ramona Scowden of Texas; and several nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law Keith Obrecht; and a grandson Ben Obrecht; two brothers Worth and David Walker; a half-brother Clarence Stevens; a step-brother Robert Stevens; two step-sisters Fern Sizemore and Violet Remer.
