Kathy Kay Broich

Kathy Kay Broich, age 55, of Elkhart, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. Born on March 9, 1954 at Perry, Iowa, she was the daughter of J.W. (Bud) and Doris (Crannell) Hambleton. She grew up in Decorah and Carroll graduating from Carroll High School in 1972. She was married to David Broich on December 30, 1973 at the Methodist Church in Carroll. Kathy attended college at Morningside College in Sioux City and graduated with a degree in elementary education from Grandview College in Des Moines. She was a Title I teacher for 14 years at Cornell Elementary School in the Saydel Community School District. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ankeny. In her spare time she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling, cooking, gardening, reading, and over all enjoying life. Surviving are her husband David of Elkhart, Iowa; a son Isaac Broich and his wife Angela of Ankeny, Iowa; a daughter Taran Strange and her husband Gerry of Nixa, Missouri; a son Justin Broich and his wife Jennifer of Iowa City, Iowa; a daughter Krystal Broich of Ankeny, Iowa; six grandchildren: Ariel, Clayton, Caden, Chase, Carsen, and Maliah; and her mother Doris Hambleton of Carroll, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her father, grandparents, and father-in-law. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Friday, May 29, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Ankeny with Rev. Martha Ward officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Mark Noack, David Noack, Dan Noack, Angelo Moctezuma, Jerry McClellan, and Don Parker. The bagpipes will be played by Susan Frambach. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church of Ankeny, Mercy Cancer Center Ovarian Conference c/o Lynne Kinseth, Iowa Health Hospice, or Hope Lodge in Rochester, MN.
