Karen was born on July 7, 1964, in Blair, Nebraska, the daughter of Elaine (Knight) and John Marquardt. She grew up outside Corning, Iowa, on a small family farm with cattle and row crops and graduated from Corning High School in 1982. Years later, on visits home to her parents, she still loved to sing the Red Raiders fight song.
Karen married Roger Brant on July 5, 1997, at Pleasant Ridge Community Church near Glidden, and together they made their home north of Glidden and raised four children. She was a stay-at-home mom while the kids were growing up, and later worked at Glidden-Ralston Community School, where she loved interacting with the students and helping them succeed.
In her own words, Karen loved “time with family and friends, kayaking, bicycling, gardening, flowers, the simple things in life, baking, meeting up with friends for coffee, walks around Swan Lake, wildflowers, and most of all her family. Karen was a woman of faith with her Lord and Savior at the center of her family and her life.
Karen is survived by her husband, Roger Brant; and her children, Amanda Brant, Sam (Abigail) Brant, Nathan Brant, and Tyler Brant; two sisters: Linda Weaver and Diane Warner; a brother John Marquardt (Wendy); two brothers-in-law: Ramon Brant (Shelly) and Bruce Brant (Michele); and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elaine Marquardt; her father-in-law Larry Brant and her mother-in-law, Anita (Bundt) Jones.
