Judy Kay Burns

Judy Kay (Bald) Burns, age 69, of Glidden passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with Lymphoma on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden with Pastor Alan Miller officiating. Organist for the service will be Becky Miller and soloist and guitarist will be Carl Wilburn. Casket bearers will be Anthony Bald, Chad Heuss, Marty Burns, Jason Fett, Randy Bruch, and Brian Bald. Burial will be in Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday afternoon. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden and online condolences may be left for Judy’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on June 17, 1948 in Carroll, IA, she was the daughter of Harry and Gladys (Jensen) Bald. Judy graduated from Audubon High School in 1966. Judy met her future husband, Jack, while working at the Whirly Burger Inn in Audubon. Jack went into the Navy in September 1965 during her senior year in high school. They married on June 25, 1966, shortly after her graduation from high school, while Jack returned on a two-week leave prior to his squadron being ordered to Vietnam. Jack and Judy made their first home in Norfolk, Virginia enjoying nights walking on the beach. After Jack’s service, the couple moved to Omaha, Nebraska where they welcomed their first daughter, Kelli, in December 1969. In 1974, the young family experienced the loss of their second child, Derek, at birth. They moved to Yutan, Nebraska for 5 years and during that time they were blessed with their second daughter, Cortney in August 1975. In order to be closer to family and friends they built their home in Glidden, Iowa where they have resided for over 40 years. In March 1980, they welcomed their fourth child Kevin. Throughout her life she was known for her positive outlook and unselfish nature. She was a loyal Christian and her faith in God was unwavering. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith in 1948 and was a member of Peach Lutheran Church in Glidden for over 40 years where she was a devoted servant of her Church. She made a positive impact to many children that were part of the Vacation Bible School program in Glidden. Judy always put others before herself. Judy treasured her family and friends. She loved spending time with her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. However, there was nothing more special to her then her six grandchildren. Judy would have tea parties and crafts with the girls or play football and soccer with the boys. She created memories to last a lifetime with her family. In her earlier years, her primary focus was raising her three children. After they were grown, she began working outside the home in many endeavors. She worked at Touch of Country and Good News Bookstore as well as an independent distributor for Amway, Advocare, Isagenix, and she was an independent contractor for Taylor Made Promotions. Judy is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Jack Burns of Glidden; her children; Kelli (Kurt) Slothouber of Highlands Ranch, CO, Cortney (Jeremy) Thede of Waukee, IA, and Kevin (Cindy) Burns of Adel; her six grandchildren, Jordan and Taylor Slothouber, Drew and Dylan Thede, Finlee and Ashlyn Burns; her siblings; Alvie (Sandra) Bald of Audubon, Dallas (Doris) Bald Audubon, Karen (Wayne) Heuss of Audubon; Connie (Marcel) Fett of Audubon; Jack’s siblings; Joyce Hook of Lake City, Ken (Jolene) Burns of Guthrie Center, Karen Burns of Boise, ID, and John (Traci) Burns of Crescent, IA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Derek Burns in infancy; her parents Harry and Gladys Bald; her siblings Mary Ann Peterson, Elaine Bald, Darrell Bald, Deloris Walters, Merlin Bald, Gary Bald; Jack’s parents Howard and Jeraldine Burns, and a sister Jerilyn Burns.
