Joyce Frances Wright

Joyce Frances (Potthoff) Wright, age 84, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Chaplain Angelo Luis officiating.  Casket bearers will be Joyce’s grandchildren.  Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home from 12:30 P.M. – 1:45 P.M. on Saturday prior to the service.

Joyce was born on June 18, 1939 in Carroll, IA, and was the daughter of Henry and Clementine (Wittrock) Potthoff. She grew up on her family's farm near Halbur and graduated from Kuemper High School in 1957. She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone in Carroll as an operator. She was married to Richard Wright on June 10, 1961 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur by Fr. Lawrence Greteman. The couple made their home in Carroll where they raised their three children. Joyce enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, playing cards, trucking with her husband, watching game shows, and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.  One of her favorite memories was attending the Daniel O’Donnell concert with her two daughters and two of her granddaughters.

Joyce is survived by two daughters: Julie Helgerson (Lloyd) of Carroll and Rhonda Worley (Brian) of Carroll; a son Scott Wright of Sac City; ten grandchildren: Heath Wright (Jennifer), Tarra Sisson (Nick), Megan Worley, Chance Wright, Jade Worley, Cole Worley (Sadie Thompson), Hunter Helgerson, Trevin Worley, Zane Wright, and Gunner Wright; three great-grandchildren: Josh, Jaxon, and Mika; two sisters: Arlene Rupiper of Carroll and Lois Hinners of Carroll; two brothers-in-law Danny Rowedder of Halbur and Robert Rutten of Omaha; and several nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Richard Wright in 2020; parents Henry and Clementine Potthoff;  her mother and father-in-law Florence and Clarence Wright; three brothers: Mel Potthoff (Betty), Norbert Potthoff (Irma), and Merle Potthoff (Lila); a sister Carol Rowedder; and in-laws Ernest Rupiper, Donald Hinners, Robert Wright (Joann), Don Wright (Coleen), and Maryann Rutten.
