Robert “John” Turner, age 73, of Dedham passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, September 2, 2017. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden with Rev. Brian Camara of First Presbyterian Church in Glidden officiating. Casket bearers will be John Turner Jr., Jaron Turner, Michael Neville, Daryl Klocke, and Bob Huffman. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden from 5–7 P.M. on Wednesday evening. Visitation will resume at 9:30 A.M. on Thursday until the time of service. John, as he was known, grew up on his family’s farm south of Old Carrollton where he attended country school as a boy. He graduated from Glidden High School in 1962 and farmed with his father. John was married in 1963 and to this union were born three children: John Jr., Jeff, and Joni. Farming and spending time outdoors was John’s life, and he loved to share this passion with his grandchildren. John is survived by a son John Jr. (Christina) of Bloomington, MN; a daughter Joni Halsema (Jamie) of Williamsport, IN; five grandchildren: Michael Neville, Jordan Halsema, Jaden Halsema, Jaron Turner, and Jayci Halsema; two great grandchildren: Turner Neville and Alivia Neville and their mother Katie Emken; two sisters: his twin Jean Pottroff (Donald) of Glidden and Margaret Griffiths of Des Moines; two brothers: LeRoy Turner of Glidden and Ronald Turner (Linda) of Glidden; and several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Dorothy Turner; and a son Jeff Turner in 2009.
