John Leonard Schirck

John Leonard Schirck, age 66, of LasVegas, NV formerly of Glidden passed away on August 11, 2014 at North Vista Hospital in Las Vegas. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, September 15, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden with Fr. Andrew Hoffman as Celebrant. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Lector for the Mass will be Lynn Stork. Gift bearers will be Tom and Sherry Francis. Music for the mass will be by Mary Ross and Michael Bolton. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Glidden American Legion. Born on September 29, 1947 in Carroll he was the son of Victor A. and Loretta (Feilmeier) Schirck. He grew up in Colo, IA where he graduated from high school in 1965. Following high school he attended Oakland University in Michigan. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1966 and served during the Vietnam Conflict where he was stationed in Turkey. Following his military service he moved back to Carroll where he worked for Farmland Foods in quality control. John then owned and operated the Fifth Quarter Restaurant and Lounge in Glidden for several years. He moved to Lake View in 1995 and worked at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility where he was a food service coordinator. He retired in 2006 and moved to Las Vegas. John enjoyed cooking, boating, entertaining, watching food network, driving in his convertible, and spending time with his friends and family. John is survived by two daughters: Cherese Schirck of West Des Moines and Lori Jo Schirck of Humbolt; a sister Sherry Francis and her husband Thomas of Waukee, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. John was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Dean and a sister Janice Stephens.
