John F. Lohmann Sr., age 87, of Glidden passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2016 in Carroll surrounded by his family. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden with Deacon Gary Schon officiating. Music for the service will be by Sue Moore of St. Anthony Hospice. Casket bearers will be John’s grandchildren. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden with military honors by the Glidden American Legion. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden from 5–7 P.M. on Friday evening. Visitation will resume at the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden and online condolences may be left for John’s family at www.dahnandwoodhosue.com Born on August 10, 1929 in Dedham, IA, he was the son of John and Mary (O’Boyle) Lohmann. He grew up in Dedham and graduated from Carroll High School in 1948. He worked for Joyce Lumber Company in Dedham before being drafted into the United States Army in 1951. John served two years on the front line in the Korean Conflict with the 45th Infantry Division out of Oklahoma City, OK. He earned the Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars, the United Nations Service Medal, two overseas bars, and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was married to Florine Stangl on January 8, 1951 in Ogden, IA. The couple lived in Dedham until 1954 when they moved to Coon Rapids where he worked at the Coon Rapids Locker. John and Flo moved to Glidden in 1956 where they raised their five children and John was employed by the Glidden Locker. Following the closing of the Glidden Locker, John worked at Fareway Grocery Store in Carroll in the meat department. John was an avid golfer and he enjoyed bowling, fishing, and playing fast pitch softball for the Dedham Merchants in his younger years. John was a member of the Glidden Volunteer Fire Department and the Merle Hay Post of the American Legion in Glidden for many years. He dearly loved his family and cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In 2014, John was privileged and thoroughly honored to go on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. John is survived by two daughters: Janine Allbritton of Post Oak Bend, TX, and Judy Beyer and her husband David of Carroll; a son John Lohmann Jr. (Laurel Albright) of Glidden; a son-in-law Steve Wright of Benedict, NE; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; a brother-in-law Millard Stangl of Lincoln, Ne; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Florine on May 10, 2014, two daughters: Jan Squibb and her husband Doug and Joyce Wright, son-in-law David Allbritton, sister Marie Stangl, and a granddaughter Michele.
