John J. Clark, Sr.

June 19, 1946 — February 22, 2018

          John Joseph Clark, Sr., age 71, of rural Arcadia, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at his home near Arcadia.      Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll with Pastor Dennis Bailey officiating.  Organist will be Ellen Severin.  Casket bearers will be Carroll American Legion.  Honorary casket bearers will be John’s grandchildren: Andrew and Miranda Mumm, Jackson Clark, Kodilynn and Bryndon Rosener, Noah Hugeback, and Jordynne and Dylon Bauer.  Military honors will be provided by the Carroll American Legion.  Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.      Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 1, 2018.  The casket will be moved to the church at 9:30 A.M. on Friday, where visitation will resume until the time of the funeral service.       In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be left to the John Clark Memorial Scholarship Fund and may be left at the funeral home or church.      Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for John’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com.      Born on June 19, 1946 in Clintonville, Wisconsin, he was the son of Homer and Ann (Stebritz) Clark.  John attended school and graduated from Algona High School in 1964.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War from 1964 – 1967.  After the service, John worked for NASA in the Apollo Space Program, helping to put the first man on the moon.  He then attended Iowa Central Community College, where he met his future wife, Charlene.  He was married to Charlene Hutchinson on June 2, 1972 in a beautiful pasture in Burt, Iowa.  John and Char moved to Topeka, Kansas where John worked for E.S.S.I. for 10 years.  They then moved to Fort Dodge, and John worked for Land O’ Lakes.  John and Char moved to the Carroll area in 1989.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Buena Vista University in 1992.  John worked several jobs in Carroll before retiring in 2011.  John enjoyed music, reading, gardening, fishing, traveling, painting and cooking from scratch.  He was proud of his family, especially his grandchildren.  John was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll and the American Legion.      John is survived by his wife Char of Arcadia; two daughters: Sabetha Mumm (A.J.) of Ankeny and Rachel Clark (T.J. Maulson) of Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin; his son, Jason Clark of Coon Rapids; eight grandchildren: Andrew and Miranda Mumm, Jackson Clark, Kodilynn and Bryndon Rosener, Noah Hugeback, and Jordynne and Dylon Bauer; two sisters-in-law: Christine Clark and Ginny Clark; and many nieces and nephews.      He was preceded in death by his parents; son John, Jr. in 1993; and three brothers: Gary, Nick, and Tim.
