John David Birch

John David Birch, age 71, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Friday, March 26, 2021 at his home in Carroll.

Funeral service will be held at 2 P.M. on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home with Chaplain Brian Danner of Kindred Hospice officiating.  Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.  Military honors will be conducted at the funeral home by the Carroll American Legion.

Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll for one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday.

Those in attendance at John’s service are asked to abide by Covid-19 guidelines and facemasks are required at the funeral home.

John was born on April 6, 1949 in Carroll, IA, and he was the son of Carroll Harlan and Rita Mae (Goetzinger) Birch.  He grew up in Carroll and enlisted in the United States Navy.  He served two years and was stationed in Santa Barbara, CA.  John worked for Garst Seed Company in Coon Rapids and most recently at Carroll Coolers.  John enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

John is survived by his wife Virginia Jean Birch of Carroll; his children: daughter Jamie Birch of Carroll and son Justin Birch of Carroll; eight grandchildren; thirteen step-grandchildren; two sisters: Mary Reineke of Panora, IA, and Melissa Golden (Robert) of Harlan, IA; two brothers: James Birch (Jennifer) of Harlan and Daniel Birch (Donna) of Altoona; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

John was preceded in death by his parents and a son John David Birch Jr.
